Intel iMacs take SSD upgrades that make them dramatically faster, and 2019 and earlier models take memory. Apple silicon Macs have soldered storage, so data recovery from a dead machine is board-level work. Mac mini and Mac Studio are simpler to open and take SSD or memory work where the model allows.
