Older iPads (iPad 2 through 9, Air 1 and 2, mini 1 through 5) have a separate glass digitizer over the LCD, so a cracked screen with a working picture is a cheaper digitizer-only repair. iPad Pro, Air 3 onward, mini 6 and iPad 10 use a laminated display where glass and panel are one part. Home buttons with Touch ID are paired to the board and transferred. Batteries are glued in with heavy adhesive and the swap takes longer than on a phone, usually a few hours.
