Repairing older Apple desktops
iMacs from 2012 onward have the display glued to the chassis, so every repair starts by cutting the display adhesive and finishes by resealing it with new tape; we do this routinely. Intel iMacs take SSD upgrades that make them dramatically faster, and 2019 and earlier models take memory. Apple silicon Macs have soldered storage, so data recovery from a dead machine is board-level work. Mac mini and Mac Studio are simpler to open and take SSD or memory work where the model allows.
